ATLANTA BRAVES EXTEND WINNING STREAK TO 14 STRAIGHT GAMES WITH VICTORY IN DC OVER WASHINGTON NATIONALS, ROME BRAVES NOTCH WIN IN ASHEVILLE, NC OVER TOURISTS

The Atlanta Braves extended Major League Baseball’s longest winning streak of the 2022 season to 14 straight games on Wednesday night with an 8-2 win over the Washington Nationals in the closer of a three-game set at Nationals Park in Washington DC. The Braves have swept their last four straight series and have not lost a game since May 31st.

Austin Riley contributed two home runs, including a two-run shot during the top of the seventh inning and another in the eighth.

Orlando Arcia chipped in two RBIs to include a solo home run in the eighth. Michael Harris II drove in a pair of runs.

Spencer Strider was credited with the win for Atlanta after giving up just two runs and one hit, walking two, and striking out 11 through five and two-third innings of work. Erick Fedde took the loss for Washington.

The Braves improved to 10 games above .500 with a record of 37-27. They are still in the second place of the National League East, but now four games back from the division-leading New York Mets as the Mets were defeated by the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday night. The Nationals are in last place at 23-42.

The Braves are off tonight and will continue their current six-game road trip with the first of three games in Chicago against the Cubs on Friday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 2:20 pm at Wrigley Field. Listen on WLAQ 1410 AM or 96.9 FM; air time is 1:05 pm.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves defeated the Asheville Tourists by 10-4 on Wednesday evening in game two of a six-game set in Asheville, NC. The series is now even at a game apiece. Game three is scheduled for tonight at 6:35 pm.
