STREAKING ATLANTA BRAVES IN CHICAGO TO FACE CUBS THIS WEEKEND, GRISSOM HITS TWO GRAND SLAMS IN ROME BRAVES’ WIN OVER ASHEVILLE TOURISTS

The streaking Atlanta Braves had a scheduled off day Thursday and will get back in action today with game one of a three-game series in Chicago versus the Cubs. Charlie Morton will be the starting pitcher for Atlanta, and Keegan Thompson will head to the mound for Chicago. First pitch is set for 2:20 pm. Listen on WLAQ 1410 AM or 96.9 FM; air time is 1:05 pm from the Atlanta Braves Radio Network.

The Braves have won their last 14 straight games and are 10 games over .500 at 37-27 so far this season. They are in second place of the National League East, now four and a half games behind the first-place New York Mets (as the Mets beat the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday night).

Many fans have been asking the question – are the 2022 Atlanta Braves better than the 2021 Atlanta Braves, who won the World Series? Ben Ingram, play-by-play announcer for the Braves Radio Network, stated during an interview on WLAQ’s Good Morning Rome this past Wednesday that we are not likely to know the answer to that question until October.

The Braves are currently in the midst of a six-game road trip which began in Washington DC with a sweep of the Nationals in a three-game NL East series earlier this week.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves crushed the Asheville Tourists by 22-1 on Thursday evening in game three of a six-game set in Asheville, NC. It allowed Rome to take a 2-1 lead in the series. Vaughn Grissom smacked a pair of grand slams in back to back innings. The Braves and the Tourists will meet again this evening at 6:35 pm.
