ATLANTA BRAVES WRAP UP ROAD TRIP WITH SHUTOUT VICTORY IN CHICAGO OVER CUBS; ROME BRAVES CONCLUDE SERIES UP IN ASHEVILLE, NC WITH WIN OVER TOURISTS

The Atlanta Braves wrapped up a six-game road trip with a 6-0 shut out win in Chicago over the Cubs on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a three-game set at Wrigley Field. It allowed Atlanta to avoid being swept by Chicago in the weekend series. The Braves entered that series with a 14-game winning streak.

Ian Anderson picked up the win for Atlanta after giving up three hits, walking two, and striking out six through six and two-third scoreless innings of work. Kyle Hendricks took the loss for Chicago.

Travis d’Arnaud led the charge offensively with a three-run homer in the top of the first inning.

Michael Harris II contributed a solo home run in the top of the fifth. Austin Riley and Matt Olson also clubbed RBI doubles in that inning.

The Braves went 4-2 on their road trip and improved to 38-29 on the season. They remain in second place of the National League East, now five and a half games behind the New York Mets (who lost to Miami on Sunday). They will be back on their home field at Truist Park this evening to open a seven-game homestand with the first of four games versus the San Francisco Giants. The first pitch is set for 7:20 pm. In a minor league update, the Rome Braves defeated the Asheville Tourists by 17-5 on Sunday to wrap up a six-game set in Asheville, NC. The Braves took that series 4-2. They are off today and will open up a six-game series against the Hickory Crawdads at AdventHealth Stadium on Tuesday night.
