ROME CITY COMMISSION TO MEET TUESDAY; CITY OBSERVES JUNETEENTH

The Rome City Commission will meet in regular session on Tuesday at City Hall (or the City Auditorium) on Broad Street. They will gather for a caucus session at 5 pm in the Sam King Room; that will be followed by their regular meeting at 6:30 pm in the Commission Chambers. Each is open to the public. Commissioners will gather on Tuesday as opposed to the regularly scheduled date of June 27th.

The City of Rome observes Juneteenth today, though the official observance was on June 19th. According to an update posted on Facebook –

City Administrative Offices will be closed June 20 in observance of Juneteenth.

– Walker Mountain Landfill is open 8-11 am

– Rome Transit operations will be closed

– Rome Solid Waste will service Monday’s routes on Tuesday, Tuesday’s routes will be serviced on Wednesday

– Please have carts out by 7 am

Juneteenth, or Freedom Day is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. On June 17, 2021, it officially became a federal holiday.
