ATLANTA BRAVES MATCH MODERN FRANCHISE RECORD FOR MOST WINS IN A CALENDER MONTH WITH VICTORY OVER THE PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES, ROME BRAVES WIN THIRD STRAIGHT

The Atlanta Braves beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-1 on Wednesday night in game two of a three-game National League East set up in Philadelphia, which allowed the Braves to take a 2-0 lead in the series.

Kyle Wright was the winning pitcher for Atlanta; he surrendered just one run and three hits, walked three, and struck out four in seven innings. Will Smith picked up the save. Ranger Suarez was charged with the loss for Philly.

The Braves’ offensive highlights included a solo home run from Adam Duvall in the top of the seventh inning.

That was the second of two runs driven in by Duvall. William Contreras and Michael Harris II each drove in a run for Atlanta. Philadelphia’s lone run of the night was a solo home run by Rhys Hoskins off Wright during the bottom of the third.

The Braves improved to 44-32 on the ’22 season and remain in second place of the NL East, but now just three games back from the division-leading New York Mets (who lost to Houston on Wednesday). The third-place Phillies are 39-37.

Atlanta’s record of 21-5 for June ’22 ties the modern franchise record for most wins in a calendar month.
