ATLANTA BRAVES CLOSE OUT SERIES IN PHILADELPHIA WITH A LOSS TO THE PHILLIES, ONWARD TO CINCINNATI FOR WEEKEND SET VS. REDS; ROME BRAVES CONTINUE SET IN GREENVILLE, SC THIS WEEKEND

The Atlanta Braves dropped the finale of a three-game National League East set to the Philadelphia Phillies 14-4 on Thursday night at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. That denied the Braves a sweep of that series, as well as the chance to set a new Atlanta-era record for most wins in a month.

The Phillies seized an early lead with seven runs in the bottom of the second inning. Nick Castellanos and Kyle Schwarber each slugged three-run homers. Darick Hall had one solo shot and a two-run homer. Rhys Hoskins also had a solo home run.

Michael Harris II had a two-run homer for the Braves in the top of the fifth inning.

Adam Duvall hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh. But those efforts were not enough for the Braves to overcome the Phillies, who won the game, again, by a final score of 14-4.

Ian Anderson was charged with the loss for Atlanta after giving up seven runs and seven hits, walking one, and striking out one in only two innings. Aaron Nola picked up the win for Philadelphia.

Atlanta finished the month of June with 21 wins and six losses. They are now 44-33 overall for the ’22 season and still in second place of the NL East, three and a half games behind the division-leading New York Mets (who were off on Thursday). The third-place Phillies are now 40-37, seven and a half games back.

The Braves will be in Cincinnati, OH over the weekend for a three-game set with the Reds. The first pitch of tonight’s series opener is slated for 6:40 pm. Listen on WLAQ 1410 AM or 96.9 FM; air time is 5:25 pm.

In other news from the Atlanta Braves, Ronald Acuna Jr. has earned a spot as a starter in the 2022 MLB All-Star Game. The Midsummer Classic is slated for July 19th in Los Angeles.

And Braves Country is mourning the loss of longtime PA announcer Casey Motter, who died in his sleep on Thursday morning.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves were defeated by the Greenville Drive 4-3 on Thursday night in game three of a six-game set up in Greenville, SC. Rome still leads the series 2-1. Game four is slated for this evening with first pitch at 7:05 pm.
