ATLANTA BRAVES TAKE FIRST TWO FROM ST. LOUIS CARDINALS, ROME BRAVES TO CONTINUE HOMESTAND AGAINST ASHEVILLE TOURISTS

The Atlanta Braves defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 7-1 on Tuesday evening in game two of a four-game set at Truist Park, which allowed the home team to take a 2-0 lead in the series.

The Cardinals struck first with an RBI single by Nolan Gorman in the top of the first, but the Braves surged ahead with five runs during the bottom of that inning. Matt Olson tied the game up at 1-1 with an RBI single. Atlanta took the lead on a two-run homer from Austin Riley. William Contreras added a two-run shot to make it 5-1 in favor of the Braves.

Olson and Riley each chipped in RBI doubles during the bottom of the fourth inning.

Ian Anderson picked up the win for Atlanta after giving up one run and eight hits, walking one, and striking out three in five innings. Andre Pallante took the loss for St. Louis.

Atlanta improved to 48-34 on the 2022 season and remain in second place of the National League East, now two and a half games back from the division-leading New York Mets (who lost to Cincinnati on Tuesday night). St. Louis is 44-39 and in second place of the NL Central.

The Braves and the Cardinals will meet again this evening at 7:20 pm. Listen on WLAQ 1410 AM/96.9 FM; air time is 6:05 pm.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves had an off-day Tuesday and will resume their current six-game series versus the Asheville Tourists tonight at AdventHealth Stadium. First pitch is slated for 7 pm. Rome took the series opener by 2-1 on Monday night in a special Independence Day game.
