ATLANTA BRAVES BLANK ST. LOUIS CARDINALS AT TRUIST PARK

The Atlanta Braves shut out the St. Louis Cardinals 3-0 on Wednesday night in the third outing of a four game set at Truist Park, which allowed the Braves to take a 3-0 lead in the series.

Max Fried was the winning pitcher for Atlanta; he gave up five hits, walked one, and struck out four over six scoreless innings. AJ Minter picked up the save. Miles Mikolas was charged with the loss for St. Louis.

The Braves jumped on the board with a solo home run from Marcell Ozuna during the bottom of the fifth. That was followed by a solo shot off the bat of Eddie Rosario.

Travis d’Arnaud had an RBI double that scored Austin Riley in the bottom of the sixth.

Atlanta improved to 49-34 on the ’22 season and remain in second place of the National League East, still two and a half games back from the division-leading New York Mets (who defeated Cincinnati on Wednesday night). St. Louis dropped to 44-40 and remain in second place of the NL Central, three games back from the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Braves will go for a sweep of the Cardinals in their series finale tonight in Atlanta. First pitch is scheduled for 7:20 pm. Listen on WLAQ 1410 AM or 96.9 FM; air time is 6:05 pm.
