RCS BOARD ACCEPTS REQUEST FROM ROME HIGH PRINCIPAL DR. ERIC HOLLAND TO BE RELEASED FROM HIS CONTRACT TO TAKE A NEW POST IN ANOTHER DISTRICT

Update from the Rome City Schools –

The Rome City Schools Board of Education met for their scheduled July meeting at the Rome City Schools College and Career Academy on July 12, 2022.

The Board opened the meeting with public comment from community members. The first community member spoke to the Board about increasing the performance of students at Main and Anna K. Davie Elementary Schools. The second spoke to the Board about the importance of allowing mentors to come back into schools and work to support the students at Rome City Schools. Now that the restrictions of COVID-19 have been lessened, this community leader said the need for mentorships is more important now than ever.

The Board also voted to accept a request from Dr. Eric Holland to be released from his contract to take a position in another district. Applications will begin to be accepted today for a new Rome High School principal. The application will be posted on the teachgeorgia.org website.

In additional business, the RCS School Board also approved the first and second reading of policies and heard from Interim Superintendent Dr. Dawn Williams about the optional student insurance plans. The Board voted and approved South Georgia Benefits Consultants for the schools’ optional student accident insurance.

In other RCS news released on Tuesday –

The Board of Education approved the hiring of Alyson Lansdell for assistant principal of Rome High School during their July school board meeting.

Lansdell holds a bachelor’s degree from Berry College in French and Secondary Education. She also holds a M. Ed. in Middle Grades Education and an Ed. S. in Education Leadership from Berry College. Her certifications include Education Leadership, Tier II, French P-12, ESOL K-12, Middle Grades Language Arts and Social Studies in grades 4-8, and Teacher Support Specialist.

She began her career in education in the Polk County School system as a French and ESOL educator. Lansdell also served the Floyd County School system as a school administrator and in Bartow County Schools as an ESOL educator for grades K-5.

The new RHS AP brings to Rome High School experience in CTAE learning and a strong background in dual enrollment programs. She also has extensive knowledge of how to use PowerSchool to communicate with parents and stakeholders, online learning expertise, and she is a leader in the professional learning community.
