The Atlanta Braves fell to the New York Mets 7-3 on Wednesday in the finale of a three-game National League East set at Truist Park; it allowed New York to take the series 2-1. The first place Mets’ lead in the division is now back to to two and a half games over the second place Braves.
The Mets jumped to an early lead with a solo home run by Eduardo Escobar in the top of the second inning and a three-run blast from Francisco Lindor in the third. Mark Canha had a solo shot during the sixth to make it 5-0 in favor of New York. Matt Olson hit a solo home run to get the Braves on the board in the bottom of the inning. The Mets got that run back on an RBI double by Luis Guillorme in the seventh; Lindor also scored on a balk.
Austin Riley notched his 25th home run of the 2022 season during the bottom of the eighth.
Eddie Rosario also had a solo shot in the bottom of the ninth. However, those efforts were not enough for the Braves to overcome the Mets, who won the ballgame, again, by a final score of 7-3.
Charlie Morton was charged with the loss for Atlanta after surrendering five runs and six hits, walking three, and striking out six over five innings. Chris Bassitt picked up the win for New York.
Thus ends a 10-game homestand that resulted in seven wins and three losses for Atlanta.
