ATLANTA BRAVES DROP OPENER IN PHILADELPHIA TO PHILLIES, ROME BRAVES IN HICKORY, NC TO FACE CRAWDADS

The Atlanta Braves lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 6-4 on Monday night in the opener of a three-game National League East set at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. It was the second straight loss for the Braves, who are now two games back from the division-leading New York Mets (who had the night off on Monday).

Atlanta jumped to an early lead with three unearned runs during the top of the second. But Philly struck back with a pair of runs in the bottom of that inning and scored another run during the third to tie the game at 3-3. Marcell Ozuna hit an RBI single to break the tie in favor of the Braves in the sixth. And then the Phillies surged ahead on a three-run homer by Bryson Stott off AJ Minter in the eighth.

Minter was charged with the loss for Atlanta. Andrew Bellatti picked up the win, while Seranthony Dominguez got the save for Philadelphia.

The Braves will face the Phillies again tonight at 7:05 pm. Listen locally on WLAQ 1410 AM/96.9 FM; air time is 5:50 pm.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves were off Monday and will resume their current nine-game road trip this evening with the first meeting of a six-game series in Hickory, NC versus the Crawdads. The first pitch is scheduled for 7 pm. Rome began the road trip by taking two of three in Winston-Salem, NC over the Dash over the weekend.
