ATLANTA BRAVES DROP SERIES FINALE IN PHILADELPHIA TO THE PHILLIES, ROME BRAVES FALL AGAIN IN HICKORY, NC TO THE CRAWDADS

The Atlanta Braves fell to the Philadelphia Phillies 7-2 on Wednesday in the final meeting of a three-game National League East set at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, which allowed the Phillies to take the series 2-1. The second place Braves have fallen to three games back from the division-leading New York Mets (who beat the New York Yankees on Wednesday night), while the third-place Phillies are 10 games back.

Philadelphia notched five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning off of Charlie Morton, who was charged with the loss for Atlanta after giving up those five runs (four earned) along with six hits, walking two, and striking out five over five innings. Kyle Gibson picked up the win.

Matt Olson got the Braves on the board with a two-run homer during the top of the sixth inning.

But the Phillies tacked on two more runs during the bottom of that inning and went on to win the game by the final score, again, of 7-2.

The Braves’ record is now 59-41 on the ’22 season. They are off tonight and will be back in action this Friday night on their home field at Truist Park with the first of three games against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:20 pm. Listen locally on WLAQ 1410 AM/96.9 FM; air time is 6:05 pm.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves lost to the Hickory Crawdads by 14-6 on Wednesday night in the second outing of a six-game set in Hickory, NC. The Crawdads lead the series 2-0. Game three is slated for this evening at 7 pm.
