ATLANTA BRAVES READY TO RETURN TO ACTION AGAINST PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES AT TRUIST PARK, SIGN AUSTIN RILEY TO 10-YEAR DEAL; ROME BRAVES BACK HOME FOR SERIES VERSUS GREENVILLE DRIVE

The Atlanta Braves had a scheduled off-day on Monday and will be back in action this evening with the first of two National League East matches versus the Philadelphia Phillies at Truist Park. Spencer Strider will serve as starting pitcher for Atlanta, and Nick Nelson will head to the mound for Philadelphia. The first pitch is set for 7:20 pm. The Braves hold a record of 62-41 on the ’22 season and are in second place of the NL East, now three and a half games behind the division-leading New York Mets (who beat the Washington Nationals on Monday). The Phillies are in third place at 55-47, 10 games back.

And in other news from the Atlanta Braves, the team has agreed to a 10 year, $212 million contract with third baseman Austin Riley through the ’32 season with a $20 million club option for ’33. And – welcome back, Ehire Adrianza! He has been acquired from the Washington Nationals in exchange for minor leaguer Trey Harris. Robinson Cano has been designated for assignment. In addition, outfielder Robbie Grossman has been acquired from Detroit’s Tigers in exchange for pitcher Kris Anglin.

Major League Baseball’s trade deadline for 2022 is slated for this evening at 6 pm.
