ATLANTA BRAVES DROP OPENER IN NEW YORK; SERIES AMONG NL EAST RIVALS CONTINUES THIS WEEKEND

The Atlanta Braves fell to the New York Mets 6-4 on Thursday night in game one of a five-game National League East series at Citi Field in Flushing, NY. The first place Mets’ lead in the division now stands at four and a half games over the second place Braves.

Tyler Naquin hit a couple of solo home runs for New York during the second and sixth innings. Pete Alonso had three RBIs to include a two-run homer in bottom of the third. Daniel Vogelbach also homered in the third.

Atlanta notched three runs during the top of the fifth inning to include an RBI single from Michael Harris II and a two-run homer by Ronald Acuna Jr.

Harris had another RBI single during the top of the seventh inning. But all of those efforts were not enough for the Braves to overcome the Mets, who won the ballgame, again, by a final score of 6-4.

Kyle Wright was charged with the loss for Atlanta after surrendering six runs and seven hits, walking two, and striking out four through six innings. Carlos Carrasco picked up the win and Edwin Diaz got the save for New York.

The Braves will face the Mets again this evening up in New York. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 pm. Listen locally on WLAQ 1410 AM or 96.9 FM; air time is 5:55 pm.
