ATLANTA BRAVES NAB EXTRA-INNING WIN IN BOSTON OVER THE RED SOX, ROME BRAVES OPEN SERIES IN ASHEVILLE, NC WITH LOSS TO THE TOURISTS

The Atlanta Braves beat the Boston Red Sox 9-7 over 11 innings on Tuesday night in the first meeting of a two-game interleague set at Fenway Park up in Boston, MA; that ended the Braves’ longest losing streak of the year at three straight games.

Austin Riley drove in five runs to include an RBI triple that got the Braves on the board in the top of the first inning, a two-run homer during the third, and a tie-breaking single in the 11th.

William Contreras also contributed a run-scoring triple, while Michael Harris II, Dansby Swanson, and Orlando Arcia added RBI doubles for the Braves. Unfortunately, Arcia was sidelined by a hamstring injury.

Christian Arroyo, Tommy Pham, and Jarren Duran all had home runs for the Red Sox. JD Martinez drove in a pair of runs.

Dylan Lee was credited with the win in relief, while Tyler Matzek picked up the save for Atlanta. Kaleb Ort took the loss for Boston.

The Braves improved to 65-46 on the ’22 season and are still in second place of the National League East, still seven games back from the division-leading New York Mets (who beat Cincinnati on Tuesday). They will conclude their two-game set in Boston versus the Red Sox this evening. First pitch is slated for 7:10 pm. Listen on WLAQ 1410 AM/96.9 FM; air time is 5:55 pm.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves lost in Asheville, North Carolina to the Tourists by a final score of 6-2 on Tuesday night. That brought Rome’s latest winning streak to an end at six straight. The teams will meet again this evening at 6:35 pm.
