VAUGHN GRISSOM HOMERS IN HIS MAJOR LEAGUE DEBUT AS ATLANTA BRAVES SWEEP INTERLEAGUE SET IN BOSTON VERSUS RED SOX, ROME BRAVES EDGE ASHEVILLE TOURISTS

The Atlanta Braves beat the Boston Red Sox 8-4 on Wednesday night in the finale of a two-game interleague set at Fenway Park in Boston; that allowed the Braves to sweep the series.

The evening was highlighted by the major league debut of Vaughn Grissom, who played for High-A Rome just a month ago. He hit a two-run homer over the Green Monster in the top of the seventh inning.

Marcell Ozuna opened the scoring with a three-run homer during the top of the fourth. He contributed a total of four RBIs. Dansby Swanson and Eddie Rosario each drove in a run.

Tommy Pham had a three-run shot off of Dylan Lee during the bottom of the seventh; he drove in all four of Boston’s runs.

Kyle Wright got the win for Atlanta after giving up just one run and six hits, walking one, and striking out five through six innings. Nick Pivetta took the loss for Boston.

Atlanta improved to 66-46 on the 2022 season and are still in second place of the National League East, still seven games behind the division-leading New York Mets (who picked up another win over Cincinnati on Wednesday). The Braves have a scheduled off day today and will conclude the current 11-game road trip over the weekend with four outings down in Miami, Florida against the Marlins. First pitch of this Friday evening’s series opener is scheduled for 6:40 pm. Listen on WLAQ 1410 AM/96.9 FM; air time is 5:25 pm.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves (Vaughn Grissom’s former team) edged the Asheville Tourists 10-9 on Wednesday night in the second meeting of a six-game set in Asheville, NC. The series is now tied at 1-1. Game three is slated for this evening at 6:35 pm.
