ATLANTA BRAVES OPEN UP HOMESTAND WITH HUGE WIN OVER NEW YORK METS; MIKE SOROKA TO BEGIN REHAB ASSIGNMENT WITH ROME BRAVES TONIGHT

The Atlanta Braves opened up a seven-game homestand with a 13-1 win over the New York Mets on Monday evening in game one of a four-game National League East set at Truist Park. It was the seventh consecutive victory for the second place Braves, who are now four and a half games behind the division-leading Mets.

Atlanta jumped on the board in the bottom of the second inning with back-to-back home runs from William Contreras and Eddie Rosario.

Ronald Acuna Jr. had an RBI double in that inning, then the game was halted due to rain. The delay did not curb the Braves’ momentum as they scored two more runs in the fourth and eight more during the sixth to include a three-run homer by Travis d’Arnaud.

Acuna contributed a total of three RBIs on the night, as did Dansby Swanson. Spencer Strider picked up the win for Atlanta after giving up just one run and three hits, walking one, and striking out four in five innings. Carlos Carrasco took the loss for New York after an early departure due to injury.

Atlanta improved to 71-46 on the ’22 season, while New York’s record is now 75-41.

The second meeting in the current NL East battle between the Braves and the Mets is scheduled for tonight at 7:20 pm. Listen on WLAQ 1410 AM or 96.9 FM; air time is 6:05 pm.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves will be back on their home field at AdventHealth Stadium this evening to open up a six-game series versus the Greenboro Grasshoppers. And they will be joined by a familiar face – Atlanta Braves pitcher Mike Soroka, who will be in town on a rehab assignment. He played here in Rome back in 2016. The first pitch is set for 7 pm.
