ATLANTA BRAVES SHUT OUT NEW YORK METS AT TRUIST PARK, SIGN MICHAEL HARRIS II TO AN EIGHT-YEAR DEAL

The Atlanta Braves blanked the New York Mets 5-0 on Tuesday night in the second meeting of a four-game National League East set at Truist Park. That was the eighth consecutive victory for the second place Braves, who are now three and a half games back from the division-leading Mets.

Charlie Morton was credited with the win for Atlanta after surrendering just three hits, walking one, and matching a season-high with 12 strike-outs over six and two-third scoreless innings. RJ Alvarez was charged with the loss for New York.

The Braves jumped on the board with a solo home run by Robbie Grossman in the bottom of the third.

Matt Olson clubbed a two-run shot in the fourth; that was his 25th homer of the season.

Olson chipped an RBI single during the bottom of the seventh inning, as did Dansby Swanson.

The Braves improved to 72-46 on the 2022 season, while the Mets are 75-42. Those teams will meet again tonight at 7:20 pm. Listen on WLAQ 1410 AM or 96.9 FM; air time is 6:05 pm.

The Atlanta Braves signed OF Michael Harris II to an eight-year contract worth $72 million that runs through the 2030 season. The deal includes a $15 million club option for 2031 with a $5 million buyout and a $20 million club option for 2032 with a $5 million buyout. Harris will make $5 million per season for 2023-2024, $8 million per season for 2025-2026, $9 million in 2027, $10 million per season in 2028-2029 and $12 million in 2030. The deal will be worth $102 million over 10 years if both options are exercised.
