ATLANTA BRAVES’ LATEST WINNING STREAK ENDS WITH LOSS TO NEW YORK METS

The Atlanta Braves fell to the New York Mets 9-7 on Wednesday night in the third match of a four game National League East set at Truist Park; it brought an eight game winning streak to an end for the second place Braves, who are now back to four and a half games behind the division-leading Mets.

New York got on the board with back-to-back home runs from Starling Marte and Francisco Lindor off of Jake Odorizzi in the top of the first inning. Brett Baty added a two-run shot in the second to extend the Mets’ lead to 4-0. The Braves got on the board with a sac fly by Dansby Swanson during the bottom of the third. Mark Canha had an RBI double for New York in the sixth, while Marte contributed another solo home run in the seventh. Atlanta came within a run of the visiting team with four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, a groundout from Vaughn Grissom which scored Eddie Rosario and a three run homer off the bat of Robbie Grossman.

The Mets scored three more runs in the top of the ninth on an RBI single by Pete Alonso and an RBI double by Daniel Vogelbach. The Braves netted two more runs during the bottom of that inning on a single from Vaughn Grissom. But the Mets held on for the win, again, by a final score of 9-7.

Odorizzi took the loss for Atlanta after surrendering five runs and eight hits, walking two, and striking out two over five innings. Max Scherzer picked up the win for New York.
