ATLANTA BRAVES SWEEP SEASON SERIES VERSUS PITTSBURGH PIRATES, ONWARD TO ST. LOUIS FOR SET AGAINST CARDINALS; ROME BRAVES CONTINUE SERIES IN BOWLING GREEN, KY

The Atlanta Braves crushed the Pittsburgh Pirates 14-2 on Wednesday in the last outing of a three game set at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, PA. It allowed the Braves to sweep the seven-game season series among those teams and move to a game and a half back from the National League East-leading New York Mets (who were off on Wednesday).

The Braves got on the board with a two-run homer from William Contreras in the top of the second inning. They tacked on five unearned runs in the fourth and extended their lead with seven more runs in the eighth to include a grand slam off the bat of Matt Olson.

Kyle Wright secured the win for Atlanta after giving up just two hits, walking one, and striking out eight through seven scoreless innings. Mitch Keller was charged with the loss for Pittsburgh.

The Braves improved to 78-48 on the 2022 season with Wednesday’s victory. They will continue their current six-game road trip with a three-game set in St. Louis, MO versus the Cardinals this weekend. The first pitch of Friday’s series opener is slated for 8:15 pm Eastern. That game will not be aired on WLAQ 1410 AM and 96.9 FM due to our broadcast of high school football; we will, however, have coverage of this Saturday and Sunday nights’ matches between Braves and the Cardinals from the Atlanta Braves Radio Network.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves beat the Bowling Green Hot Rods 4-3 on Wednesday night in the second meeting of a six-game set in Bowling Green, KY. Game three is scheduled for tonight at 7:35 pm. The series will continue through the weekend.
