ATLANTA BRAVES ENTER TIE WITH NEW YORK METS FOR FIRST PLACE IN THE NL EAST; ROME BRAVES TO PLAY TWIN BILL UP IN HICKORY, NC VERSUS CRAWDADS

The Atlanta Braves are now tied with the New York Mets for first place in the National League East, following a Braves’ victory over the Oakland Athletics by 10-9 on Tuesday night in the first match of a two-game interleague set out in Oakland, CA (and a Mets’ loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates). That was the sixth straight win for Atlanta.

Matt Olson clubbed a three-run homer in his first game at Oakland versus his former team in the top of the third inning.

Sean Murphy and Seth Brown homered for the As during the bottom of that inning. Chad Pinder had a three-run shot to tie the game up at 9-9 during the fifth. Austin Riley put the Braves back on top with a sac fly in the sixth, and the visiting team held on for the win, again, by a final score of 10-9.

Jesse Chavez picked up the win in relief, and Kenley Jansen got the save for Atlanta. Braves starting pitcher Kyle Wright’s MLB-best wins total remained at 17. Joel Payamps took the loss for Oakland.

The Braves improved to 85-51 on the 2022 season. They will conclude their brief two-game set in Oakland against the As this afternoon. First pitch is set for 3:37 pm Eastern. Listen locally on WLAQ 1410 AM/96.9 FM; airtime is 2:20 pm.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves game that had been scheduled for Tuesday night in Hickory, NC against the Crawdads has been postponed due to wet grounds. It will be made up as part of a double header today at 5 pm.
