ATLANTA BRAVES COMPLETE SWEEP OF SEASON SERIES VERSUS OAKLAND ATHLETICS, ROME BRAVES SWEEP TWIN BILL VERSUS HICKORY CRAWDADS

The Atlanta Braves beat the Oakland Athletics 7-3 on Wednesday afternoon in the finale of a two-game interleague set out in Oakland, CA; that allowed the Braves to sweep the four-game season series between the teams. Atlanta is currently a half game back in the National League East from the division-leading New York Mets, who swept a twin bill against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday.

The As struck first with two runs in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI double from Stephen Vogt and a ground out by Ramon Laureano. A two-run homer by Vaughn Grissom tied the game up at 2-2 during the top of the fifth.

Atlanta took the lead on a solo shot by Dansby Swanson in the sixth.

The Braves added four more runs in the seventh to include an RBI single by Marcell Ozuna, a two-run double by Robbie Grossman, and an RBI single by Ronald Acuna Jr. Seth Brown hit a solo home run for the Athletics during the eighth.

Spencer Strider secured the win for Atlanta after giving up two runs and two hits, walking three, and striking out nine in six innings. Ken Waldichuk took the loss for Oakland.

The Braves have won their last seven straight games and improved to 86-51 on the 2022 season. They are off today and will be up in Seattle, Washington for a three-game set against the Mariners over the weekend. The first pitch of Friday’s series opener is scheduled for 9:40 pm. And in a minor league update, the Rome Braves swept a double header up in Hickory, NC versus the Crawdads on Wednesday by 5-0 and 8-2. Game three in the teams’ six-game set is slated for tonight at 7 pm. This is Rome’s final series of the ’22 regular season.
