ATLANTA BRAVES CONCLUDE WEST COAST ROAD TRIP WITH A LOSS OUT IN SAN FRANCISCO, CA TO THE GIANTS; ROME BRAVES CONTINUE PLAYOFF RUN

The Atlanta Braves closed out an eight-game road trip out west with a loss to the San Francisco Giants by 4-1 on Wednesday afternoon in the last meeting of a three-game set at Oracle Park in San Francisco, CA. The Giants took the series 2-1. The Braves went 4-4 during the road trip and remain a half a game behind the National League East-leading New York Mets (who lost another outing to the Chicago Cubs later in the evening).

The Giants struck first on an RBI single by Austin Wynns off Charlie Morton in the bottom of the second inning. The Braves tied the game up at 1-1 on an RBI single by Robbie Grossman during the top of the third.

JD Davis broke that tie in favor of the Giants with an RBI double during the bottom of the fourth. Wynns added some insurance with a two-run single in the sixth, and the Giants won the game, again, by a final score of 4-1.

Morton was charged with the loss for Atlanta after surrendering four runs and four hits, walking two, and striking out seven over five and one-third innings of work. Carlos Rodon got the win after giving up just one unearned run, and Camilo Doval picked up the save for San Francisco.

The Braves are now 88-53 with 19 games left in the ’22 regular season. They are off today and will return to their home field at Truist Park on Friday night to open a six-game homestand with the first of three NL East matches against the Philadelphia Phillies. First pitch is slated for 7:20 pm. The game will not be aired on WLAQ 1410 AM or 96.9 FM due to our broadcast of high school football. Tune in for coverage of the remainder of that series from the Braves Radio Network.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves will take on the Bowling Green Hot Rods tonight in Game Two of the South Atlantic League’s South Division playoffs. First pitch is scheduled for 7:35 pm Eastern in Bowling Green, KY. Rome picked up a 3-2 walk-off victory in 10 innings this past Tuesday night at home in Game One. Game Three, if necessary, will be played in Bowling Green on Friday night.
