STRIDER MAKES HISTORY AS ATLANTA BRAVES COMPLETE SWEEP OF PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES

The Atlanta Braves beat the Philadelphia Phillies 5-2 on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a three-game National League East set at Truist Park; it allowed the Braves to sweep the weekend series among division rivals. Atlanta is now a game back from the division-leading New York Mets (who finished a four-game sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday).

Spencer Strider notched his 200th strikeout of the year to make history as the first Braves rookie in the modern era to reach 200 strikeouts.

Strider gave up just one run and one hit, walked three, and struck out a total of 10 over six innings en route to the win for Atlanta.

Robbie Grossman got the Braves on the board with an RBI double during the bottom of the third. Alec Bohm had a solo home run in the sixth which tied the game up at 1-1. William Contreras broke the tie in favor of the home team with a solo shot during the bottom of the inning. The Braves added two more runs in the seventh on a solo homer by Grossman and RBI single from Austin Riley, as well as another run during the eighth inning on an RBI double from Marcell Ozuna. JT Realmuto hit a solo shot for Philadelphia in the top of the ninth.

The Braves improved to 91-55 with 16 games remaining in the 2022 regular season. They will welcome the Washington Nationals to Atlanta for the first of three NL East outings tonight. First pitch is scheduled for 7:20 pm. Listen on WLAQ 1410 AM or 96.9 FM; airtime is 6:05 pm.
