FLOYD COUNTY POLICE DEPARTMENT PROVIDES UPDATE ON COUNTY LINE SHOOTING THAT OCCURRED LAST WEEK

(Media release from the Floyd County Police Department):

A Calhoun man was denied bond and remains in Floyd County Jail on charges related to a shooting that occurred last week in rural Shannon near the county line.

Rocky James Fair, 31, of Calhoun was arrested on a warrant that charges him

with aggravated battery for shooting his step father, 55-year-old Raymond Gene Johnson, Jr.

According to arrest reports from Investigator Logan Moore, the pair were involved in a heated altercation that started at their home in Calhoun on September 16. At some point the father and step son parted ways and Fair followed Johnson toward Floyd County, where they began shooting at each other.

Evidence indicates that Johnson called 911 around 6:30 a.m. stating that he had been shot. He was later pronounced dead by the Floyd County Coroner.

The investigation of Johnson’s death is still ongoing and pending the return of evidence from the state crime lab.

Fair is presently charged with aggravated battery, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and reckless conduct.
