The Atlanta Braves opened a seven-game road trip on Thursday night with a loss in Philadelphia to the Phillies by 1-0 in the first meeting of a four-game National League East series, marking the second straight loss for the Braves. Atlanta is now a game and a half behind the division-leading New York Mets, who were off on Thursday.
JT Realmuto scored the lone run of the night for the Phillies on a sac fly from Matt Vierling in the bottom of the second inning.
Max Fried was charged with the loss for Atlanta after giving up that one run and five hits, walking one, and striking out eight through five innings. Ranger Suarez was credited with the win, while Jose Alvarado picked up the save for Philadelphia.
The Braves will face the Phillies again tonight at 7:05 pm. That game will not be aired on WLAQ 1410 AM or 96.9 FM due to our broadcast of high school football. Tune in for coverage of the remainder of that series from the Atlanta Braves Radio Network on Saturday and Sunday.
