October is again being observed this year as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. It is an observance spearheaded locally by the Hospitality House for Women, Inc.
The slate of events includes a Candlelight Vigil on Thursday, October 20th at 6 pm at Rotary Plaza during which three survivors will share their stories, as indicated by Lynn Rousseau, Executive Director of Hospitality House.
The annual Walk A Mile in Her Shoes event will be held on Friday, October 21st. It offers a more lighthearted approach to raising awareness of domestic violence, says Rousseau. Registration will start at 11 am at Rotary Plaza.
Pre-register for the walk before October 8th to guarantee a free t-shirt in size of choice and a gift bag at www.hospitalityhouseforwomen.org.
The Grand Marshal Challenge is back for 2022, in which the top fund raiser will earn the opportunity to lead the walk aboard the Roman Chariot. Locals are urged by Rousseau to view the list of this year’s competitors and vote for their favorites on the website.
The last event on the DVAM calendar will be Hospitality House for Women’s Annual Meeting on Monday, October 24th at 6 pm in the Wilder Center of the First United Methodist Church in downtown Rome.
