ATLANTA BRAVES’ QUEST FOR A FIFTH STRAIGHT NL EAST TITLE EXTENDED ANOTHER DAY WITH LOSS IN MIAMI TO MARLINS

The Atlanta Braves’ quest for a fifth straight National League East title was extended another day as they were shut out by the Miami Marlins by 4-0 on Monday night in the opener of a three-game division set at LoanDepot Park in Miami, Florida. Their magic number to clinch remains at one – a Braves win or a New York Mets loss.

Bryce Elder took the loss for Atlanta after surrendering four runs and six hits, walking one, and striking out five over five innings. Jesus Luzardo picked up the win for Miami.

The Marlins scored two runs in the bottom of the first on RBI doubles from Bryan De La Cruz and Jesus Sanchez. De La Cruz added a two-run homer in the third.

The Braves are now 100-60 on the 2022 regular season and maintain a game and a half lead in the NL East over the New York Mets, whose series opener in Washington DC against the Nationals was rained out Monday and will be made up as part of a double header today.

Just two more games remain in the regular season for the Braves, who will face the Marlins again tonight at 6:40 pm. Listen on WLAQ 1410 AM/96.9 FM; airtime is 5:25 pm.
