NATIONAL LEAGUE EAST CHAMPION ATLANTA BRAVES FINISH REGULAR SEASON WITH LOSS IN MIAMI TO THE MARLINS

The National League East champion Atlanta Braves finished the 2022 regular season with a loss to the Miami Marlins by 12-9 in the finale of a three-game division set on Wednesday at LoanDepot Park in Miami, FL. Miami took the series by 2-1.

Offensive highlights for the Braves included a three-run homer from Marcell Ozuna in the top of the sixth inning and a two-run shot by Matt Olson during the seventh. Guillermo Heredia had three hits and drove in two runs.

Jesse Chavez was charged with the loss for Atlanta. Andrew Nardi picked up the win and Dylan Floro secured the save for the Marlins, who were lifted to victory in part by home runs from Nick Fortes and Peyton Burdick.

The Braves concluded the regular season with 101 wins and 61 losses. They secured the tiebreaker in the NL East with their sweep of the New York Mets in Atlanta last weekend. The Marlins finished in fourth place of the division at 69-93 as Don Mattingly’s time as their manager drew to a close.

The defending World Series champion Braves will open the 2022 postseason next Tuesday with Game One of their National League Division Series versus either the Philadelphia Phillies or the St. Louis Cardinals at Truist Park.
