ENJOY FALL COLOR IN DOWNTOWN ROME DURING ANNUAL TREE WALK SET FOR HALLOWEEN

Keith Mickler, UGA Extension Agent for Floyd County, is looking forward to partnering with the Floyd County Master Gardeners for the annual Tree Walk on Halloween, Monday, October 31st. They will be joined by Terry Page, the City of Rome’s retired Arborist, and John Hendrickson, Floyd County Master Gardener. Those interested in participating are asked to gather outside of the Extension Office at the county Administration Building on East 4th Avenue at 2 pm. Mickler asserts that he eagerly anticipates taking participants on a tour of Fall color in downtown Rome.

So what causes the leaves on trees to change colors during the Fall? Shorter day length and cooler temperatures trigger the transition, says Mickler.

Mickler adds that he particularly looks forward to vibrant Fall color among the ginkgo trees in downtown Rome.
