GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF LABOR: ROME, NWGA SEE DROP IN SEPTEMBER UNEMPLOYMENT RATES

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Rome recorded an unemployment rate of 2.5 percent in September, down six-tenths of a percent over the month. A year ago, the rate was 3.2 percent.

“We continue to see a steady rise in job creation and demand by employers to fill open positions,” said Commissioner Mark Butler. “This strong growth has led to Georgia having the fewest unemployed residents in over 20 years.”

The labor force increased in Rome by 190 and ended the month with 43,827. That number is up 168 when compared to September of 2021.

Rome finished the month with 42,723 employed residents. That number increased by 431 over the month and rose 478 when compared to the same time a year ago.

Jobs were flat from August to September and rose 1,300 over the year, to 42,500.

The number of unemployment claims went down by 4 percent in Rome in September. When compared to last September, claims were down by about 14 percent.

Employ Georgia, the GDOL’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed about 770 active job postings in Rome for September.

Northwest Georgia Regional Commission – Bartow, Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Fannin, Floyd, Gilmer, Gordon, Haralson, Murray, Paulding, Pickens, Polk, Walker, and Whitfield counties.

  • The September preliminary unemployment rate was down four-tenths to 2.5 percent o-t-m, the rate was 2.9 percent one year ago.
  • The labor force was up 1,305 o-t-m and up 3,673 o-t-y, to 429,483.
  • The number of employed was up 3,315 o-t-m and up 5,318 o-t-y, to 418,944.
  • Initial claims were up 281 (11%) o-t-m and up 610 (28%) o-t-y, to 2,789.
  • Initial claims were up o-t-m in Manufacturing and Professional, Scientific and Technical Services, and up o-t-y in Wholesale Trade and Manufacturing.
  • There were 5,325 jobs posted on Employ Georgia.
