VOLUNTEERS, DONATIONS SOUGHT FOR THE 34TH ANNUAL THANKSGIVING LOVE FEAST

Volunteers and donations are sought for the 34th annual Thanksgiving Love Feast. The traditional Thanksgiving dinner will be served at the Rome Civic Center on Thursday, November 24th from 11 am until 2 pm (or until the food runs out).

Only carry-out will be provided this year; there will be no inside dining, as indicated by Reverend Terrell Shields, Chairman of the Concerned Citizens of Rome and Floyd County, who adds that volunteers are currently sought to distribute carry-out orders and deliver meals to shut-ins.

Those interested in serving as a volunteer should call (706) 291-2091 to find out when they are most needed. Time slots are from 9 am until 11 am, 11 am until 1 pm, and 1 pm until 3 pm, although Shields states that his organization is willing to accommodate volunteers’ schedules.

Financial contributions to the Love Feast are particularly needed this year as the cost of the meal has risen substantially due to inflation, says Shields.

To donate money, send your check payable to “Thanksgiving Love Feast” to P.O. Box 161, Rome, Georgia 30161. Donations may also be made by using the Cash app at #Lovefeast1987.

The Thanksgiving Love Feast started over three decades ago when Shields’ youngest daughter Terrica learned at her daycare that some people would not have anything to eat on Thanksgiving. His oldest daughter Cherish just knew that their father could do something about it.

Donations of warm winter coats and jackets are also sought for distribution to those in need at the Thanksgiving Love Feast. They may be taken over to the Civic Center on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving from 5 pm to 8 pm, says Shields, who also welcomes the donation of desserts.
