FLOYD COUNTY HIGH SCHOOLS CLASS OF ’22 ABOVE NATIONAL AVERAGE ON ACT

(Media release from Floyd County Schools):

Floyd County Schools (FCS) Class of 2022 average ACT score was 20.4 compared to the national average of 19.8. FCS was just below the state and recorded an average composite score of 21.6.

The Class score decreased 1.1 points from 21.5 composite score average last year to 20.4 this year, but was able to beat the Nation’s 19.8 average on the competitive college entrance and placement examination. The scores ranked FCS in the top 50 districts in the State. Students earn a score on a scale of 1 to 36. The average FCS scores by subject on the ACT used to calculate the overall composite average are: English, 19.8; Math, 19.6; Reading, 21.1; Science, 20.8.

The ACT is taken in lieu of or along with the SAT, and the Class of 2022’s ACT scores follow outstanding SAT results released earlier this fall. The number of students in the Class of 2022 who took the ACT decreased locally but increased at the state and national levels: in FCS, 171 in 2021 to 122; in Georgia, 29,202 in 2021 to 35,284; in the U.S1.29 Million in 2021 to 1.3 Million.

“I am very proud of the class of 2022, along with the hard-working teachers who worked to open up opportunities for them,” State School Superintendent Richard Woods said. “These students did not have an easy or typical high-school experience – the pandemic began during their sophomore year. Despite that, they have continued to beat the odds and find success – beating the nation on the ACT and SAT and recording an all-time-high graduation rate. I wish them great success in their futures.”

Scores from two FCS high schools surpassed the National average, including Armuchee High School with composite score average of 19.9 and Model High School with an average score of 21.4. Coosa High scored 19.3 and Pepperell High a 19.5 that fell below the national average.
