HOUSE REPUBLICAN CAUCUS ELECTS OFFICERS

The House Republican Caucus met Monday and elected its key leaders for the 2023-2024 legislative term. The Majority Caucus nominated State Representative Jon Burns (R-Newington) as the 74th Speaker of the House of Representatives. House Speaker Pro-Tempore Jan Jones (R-Milton) was nominated for her current position by acclamation.

The Majority Caucus also elected the following positions:

  • State Rep. Chuck Efstration (R-Dacula), House Majority Leader;
  • State Rep. James Burchett (R-Waycross), House Majority Whip;
  • State Rep. Bruce Williamson (R-Monroe), House Majority Caucus Chairman;

ยท         State Rep. Houston Gaines (R-Athens), House Majority Caucus Vice-Chairman;

  • State Rep. Ginny Ehrhart (R-Marietta), House Majority Caucus Secretary and Treasurer.

Representative Jon Burns currently represents the citizens of District 159, which includes Screven County and portions of Bulloch and Effingham counties. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2006 and served as House Majority Leader until his nomination as the 74th Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Representative Jan Jones currently represents the citizens of District 47, which includes portions of Fulton County. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2002 and currently serves as House Speaker Pro-Tempore. She also serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Education and the Education, Ethics, Legislative & Congressional Reapportionment, Regulated Industries and Rules committees.

Representative Chuck Efstration currently represents the citizens of District 104, which includes portions of Gwinnett County. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2013 and currently serves as the House Majority Leader. He also serves as Chairman of the Judiciary Committee and serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation and the Rules, Code Revision, Ethics, Legislative & Congressional Reapportionment, Defense & Veterans Affairs, Insurance and Juvenile Justice committees. He also serves as an Ex-Officio member of the Judiciary Non-Civil Committee.

Representative James Burchett currently represents the citizens of District 176, which includes Atkinson and Lanier counties and portions of Lowndes and Ware counties. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2019 and currently serves as the House Majority Whip. He also serves as the Chairman of the Judiciary Non-Civil Committee and serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Public Safety and the Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight and Transportation committees. He is also an Ex-Officio member of the Judiciary Committee.

Representative Bruce Williamson currently represents the citizens of District 115, which includes portions of Walton County. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2010 and currently serves as the Chairman of House Majority Caucus. He also serves on the Banks & Banking, Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications, Insurance, Governmental Affairs, Regulated Industries, Rules and Ways & Means committees.

Representative Houston Gaines currently represents the citizens of District 117, which includes portions of Barrow, Clarke, Jackson and Oconee counties. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2018 and currently serves as Vice Chairman of the House Majority Caucus. He also serves as Chairman of the Legislative & Congressional Reapportionment Committee, Vice Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education and Secretary of the Health & Human Services Committee. He also serves on the Special Committee on Election Integrity and the Code Revision, Insurance, Juvenile Justice and Ways & Means committees.

Representative Ginny Ehrhart currently represents the citizens of District 36, which includes portions of Cobb County. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2018 and currently serves as the Secretary and Treasurer of the House Majority Caucus. She also serves as Vice Chairman of the Higher Education Committee, Secretary of the Regulated Industries Committee and on the Budget and Fiscal Oversight, Transportation, Science and Technology and Information and Audits committees.
