FLOYD COUNTY JOINS STATEWIDE OBSERVANCE OF WINTER WEATHER PREPAREDNESS WEEK

The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency has partnered up with the National Weather Service to observe Winter Weather Preparedness Week from December 5th through 9th.

Tim Herrington, the Director of the Floyd County Emergency Management Agency, says the purpose of the observance is to encourage Georgians to get ready for all types of winter weather threats. He adds that forecasters predict that this Winter will be wet and warm for our area. (And that’s no surprise to anyone who has seen this week’s forecast.)

But when it comes to the weather in Georgia, anything can happen. Just ask any local who remembers the Blizzard of 1993. The 30th anniversary of that storm will occur in March. Come what may this Winter, Herrington says that public safety will be ready; they will certainly be more prepared than back in ’93.

Herrington urges the public to download the Floyd EMA mobile app for tips related to winter weather safety. It is available free of charge from the Apple App Store and Google Play.
