The first Rome City Commission meeting of the year was held on Monday night. Each year, the nine city commissioners (who have been elected by voters) choose a mayor and a mayor pro tem from among the commission.
– This year the commissioners unanimously selected Sundai Stevenson, for her second term as mayor and Mark Cochran for his second term as mayor pro tem.
– The role of our mayor is to serve as the chairperson for the commission. The city commission oversees the general administration, makes policy, and sets budget.
– The commission unanimously reappointed our professional city manager, Sammy Rich, to carry out day-to-day administrative operations.
