AMERICAN RED CROSS AIMS TO RAISE AWARENESS OF ITS MISSION DURING MARCH OBSERVANCE OF RED CROSS MONTH

March is designated each year as Red Cross Month. The purpose of this observance is to increase the public’s awareness of the American Red Cross’ service to communities nationwide.

According to its mission statement, the American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. Carla Maton, Executive Director of the Northwest Georgia chapter, says that leaders across the nation and in this community support the organization and the annual observance of Red Cross Month.

The public may support the local chapter of the Red Cross by making a blood donation, attests Maton, who adds that details on upcoming blood drives are available online at www.redcrossblood.org.

An additional way to assist the Red Cross is to serve as a disaster response volunteer. These volunteers respond to everything from hurricanes and wild fires to home fires, says Maton.

Financial contributions are also sought for the Red Cross’ disaster response. Donations may be made online at www.redcross.org.

Maton enthuses that the local chapter offers lifesaving classes to the public on things like CPR, first aid, water safety, and more. Information is available on the website.
