ATLANTA BRAVES DROP FINALE, BUT TAKE SEASON-OPENING SERIES IN DC VERSUS WASHINGTON NATIONALS

The Atlanta Braves fell to the Washington Nationals 4-1 on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a three-game National League East set at Nationals Park up in Washington DC. That denied a sweep for Atlanta in this series which opened the 2023 regular season.

Jared Shuster took the loss in his major league debut for Atlanta after giving up four runs during the first inning. He surrendered a total of four runs and six hits, walked five, and struck out one through four and two-third innings of work. Mackenzie Gore picked up the win for Washington.

Travis d’Arnaud drove in the Braves’ lone run of the game with an RBI single that scored Ronald Acuna Jr. in the top of the fourth.

The Braves will continue their season-opening road trip in St. Louis with the first of three games versus the Cardinals tonight. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:45 pm at Busch Stadium. Listen on WLAQ 1410 AM/96.9 FM; airtime is 6:30 pm from the Atlanta Braves Radio Network.
