The Atlanta Braves extended their current winning streak to six consecutive outings with a 5-4 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a three-game interleague set in Kansas City, MO.
The Braves took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning on a two-run triple by Matt Olson and a sac fly by Austin Riley. The Royals scored a run during the bottom of that inning on a ground out by Bobby Witt Jr. Ozzie Albies hit a solo home run to increase Atlanta’s lead to 4-1 in the top of the fourth.
But the Royals chipped away at that lead on an RBI single by Franmil Reyes during the sixth and tied the game up at 4-4 on a two-run homer from Vinnie Pasquantino in the seventh. Vaughn Grissom had an RBI single in the top of the ninth to put the Braves ahead by 5-4.
Nick Anderson was credited with the win in relief for Atlanta, and AJ Minter got the save. Starting pitcher Kyle Wright surrendered two runs and four hits, walked three, and struck out six over five and two-third innings.
The Braves will open up a three-game series in San Diego against the Padres tonight. First pitch is scheduled for 9:40 pm Eastern. Listen on WLAQ 1410 AM or 96.9 FM; airtime is 8:25 pm.
