ROME AND FLOYD COUNTY HONOR THE FALLEN ON MEMORIAL DAY

Rome and Floyd County joined communities across the United States to host Memorial Day ceremonies on Monday to honor those who gave their lives on the battlefield in service to our armed forces.

John Fortune, President of the Rome Exchange Club, stresses that Memorial Day is a solemn day to remember the fallen. This is different from Veterans Day, which is intended to honor all who have served.

The club held a Memorial Day Ceremony at the Coosa Valley Fairgrounds in Rome, for which the guest speaker was First Sergeant Bobbi Townsend, U.S. Army (retired), who once served as a guard at Arlington National Cemetery’s Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

A Memorial Day program was additionally held in Shannon, GA on Monday.
