ATLANTA BRAVES’ LOSING STREAK INCREASES TO FOUR IN A ROW WITH WEDNESDAY NIGHT DEFEAT BY ARIZONA D’BACKS

The Atlanta Braves lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks by a final score of 5-3 on Wednesday night in the second meeting of a three-game set at Truist Park. It marked the fourth straight loss for Atlanta.

The Diamondbacks scored the first run of the night on a ground rule double by Gabriel Moreno in the top of the second. The Braves tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of that inning on a solo home run from Marcell Ozuna.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. put the D’backs ahead with a two-run double in the third inning. Nick Ahmed had an RBI double in the sixth to make it 4-1 in favor of Arizona. Austin Riley made it 4-2 with a lead-off home run for Atlanta in the seventh.

The D’backs scored another run in the eighth, and the Braves notched a run on a wild pitch in the ninth. Arizona picked up the win, again, by 5-3.

Charlie Morton was charged with the loss for Atlanta after surrendering four runs and six hits, walking three, and striking out four over five and two-third innings. Ryne Nelson was credited with the win and Kevin Ginkle picked up the save for Arizona.

The National League East-leading Braves still have the best record in Major League Baseball, now 61-33 for the 2023 season. The D’backs are now tied for second place of the NL West at 54-42. The teams will meet in their series finale this afternoon. First pitch is slated for 12:20 pm.
