The return of onsite dining, a new item (chicken salad) and all your barbecue favorites are on the menu for the 55th annual Knights of Columbus Labor Day Barbecue on Monday, Sept. 4.
Preorders began on Sunday and continue until Aug. 27. All menu items are included with scheduled pickup times as well between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Labor Day. The secure order website is at www.romebbq.com.
Onsite dining returns for the first time since before the pandemic. Barbecue plates will be on sale for $12 and feature your choice of pork or beef, baked beans, Brunswick stew, bread, chips and tea or lemonade.
The doors and drive-through lane open at Rome Civic Center at 10 a.m. Available this year:
• Half rack of ribs, $15.
• Pound of pulled beef or pork barbecue, $12.
• Quart of Brunswick stew, $12
• Half a chicken, $12.
• Plate with barbecue and fixings, $12.
• A quart of baked beans, $10.
• Pint of homemade chicken salad, $6 (introductory price)
The Knights are preparing roughly 1,000 pounds of pork, 250 pounds of beef, 200 half chickens, 200 half racks of ribs, 500 quarts of Brunswick stew, 175 quarts of baked beans, and 200 pints of chicken salad.
All proceeds are returned to our community. The Knights have donated nearly $300,000 to area nonprofits since the barbecue began more than half a century ago.
“We’re bringing back indoor community dining this year while also offering both walk-up and drive-through service,” says Greg Armstrong, barbecue chairman. “The Knights, their families and other parishioners from St. Mary’s Catholic Church are ready to serve Rome’s best barbecue this Labor Day.”
