ATLANTA BRAVES DENIED A SWEEP OF SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS WITH LOSS IN SERIES FINALE

The Atlanta Braves fell to the San Francisco Giants 4-3 on Sunday afternoon in the last outing of a three-game set at Truist Park. It denied a sweep of the series for the Braves, who also saw their latest winning streak come to an end at five straight games.

The Giants struck first with a home run by Luis Matos to lead off the top of the second. The Braves took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of that inning on a two-run shot by Orlando Arcia.

Wilmer Flores had a two-run homer that gave the Giants a 3-2 lead in the top of the third. The Braves tied the game up at 3-3 when Ronald Acuna Jr. stole third base and scored on a throwing error in the bottom of the eighth.

However, the Giants regained the lead during the top of the ninth of a bases loaded walk by (former Brave) Joc Pederson. They went on to win the game, again, by a final score of 4-3.

Kirby Yates was charged with the loss for Atlanta. Starter Max Fried gave up three runs and nine hits, walked one, and struck out six in five and two-third innings. Camilo Doval picked up the win for San Francisco.

The National League East-leading Braves still have the best record in MLB, now 80-43 on the 2023 regular season. They will open a three-game division series against the New York Mets tonight at Truist Park. The first pitch is set for 7:20 pm.
