ROME-FLOYD PARKS AND RECREATION LOOKS FORWARD TO TRIO OF EVENTS IN FALL OF 2023

Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation looks forward to a trio of events in Fall of 2023.

The Paper Doll Parade and Breast Cancer Awareness 5K presented by Atrium Health Floyd will take place on Saturday, September 30th, at Ridge Ferry Park in Rome. The 5K run will start at approximately 5 pm with a two-mile health walk to follow.

That event will also include a pre-race and walk costume contest, along with food trucks and a D.J.

Registration is still open at a cost of $26 for the 5K, which is a qualifier for the Peachtree Road Race, and $21 for the walk. It must be done in person at the parks and rec office at 1 Shorter Avenue.

The 2023 Willard Nixon Sports Hall of Fame Golf Tournament sponsored by Rome Orthopaedic Center will be held on Friday, Oct. 6 at Stonebridge Golf Course. The four-man scramble tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

Team entry fees are $400. That covers green fees, cart fees, range balls and a post-round lunch.

The top three teams will earn cash prizes. There will also be prizes for the closest to the pin and a longest drive contest.

Money raised will fund the ROC Outstanding Student Athlete Scholarships, says Jim Alred, Recreation Services Manager.

In addition to the team fees, hole sponsorships are being offered for $100 per hole.

The 2023 Chili-Fest Cook Off presented by Georgia Power will take place on

Saturday, Nov. 4 at Ridge Ferry Park. Gates will open at 10 am.

Registration is now open for cook teams. Teams can register at a cost of $50 for a chance to win trophies, cash prizes and a championship belt. A panel of judges will determine the overall winners, while local chili connoisseurs have a chance to sample everyone’s chili and vote on whose is best.

The event will be open to the public and will feature numerous arts and craft vendors, food, a car show, and (of course) chili. Entry will be free to the event, but it will cost $5 to park. A $5 voting armband will be required for anyone who wants to take part in sampling and voting on chili. All would-be chili tasters are advised to get the park early as sample bracelets for the 2022 event sold out in less than two hours.
