CHIEFTAINS MUSEUM TO HOST TWO LIVING HISTORY EVENTS

(Media release from Chieftains Museum/Major Ridge Home):

Chieftains Museum/Major Ridge Home is excited to host two living history events this October. The first of these events will be the second installment of the 2023-2024 Jody Selman Lecture Series. “War Stories: An Evening with Chief William McIntosh of the Creek Nation,” portrayed by living historian Jim Sawgrass, will be presented on Thursday, October 19th at 6pm. This event will be held outdoors on the Chieftains Museum campus at 501 Riverside Parkway, Rome, GA. Guests are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and join us for this exciting event. This presentation will provide audiences with an opportunity with an opportunity to step into the past and meet William McIntosh, the powerful mico (headman) of the Lower Creeks. McIntosh is an honorary chief of the Cherokee Nation and is on his way to sit in on a session of the National Council at Ustanali. He has called to lodge for the night at Chieftains, the home of his old ally, Major Ridge.

As part of his presentation, Sawgrass will demonstrate the firing of a black powder musket. Guests should be prepared for loud noises as part of this presentation. In the event of inclement weather, this event will be moved inside the Chieftains Museum.

The following week on Thursday, October 26th at 6:30pm, Chieftains Museum/Major Ridge Home will host the 2nd Annual Evening at the Museum. Join us for a candlelight tour through the museum as we hear from historical figures who played a part in the story of the Ridge family. Hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar will be available. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased at the museum or online at www.chieftainsmuseum.org/events/eveningatthemuseum. This event will be held outdoors on the Chieftains Museum campus at 501 Riverside Parkway, Rome, GA.
