The Rome International Film Festival (RIFF) and Berry College will screen Georgia-made documentary, “The Only Doctor,” at Georgia Highlands College’s Heritage Hall on October 12, 2023, at 6 pm. “The Only Doctor” focuses on Dr. Karen Kinsell and the issues she faces as the sole healthcare provider in a Southwest Georgia county for over 20 years and was partially filmed during the COVID-19 pandemic. The film is free, and light refreshments will be served.
The Q&A after the screening includes community healthcare leaders and experts Dr. Lisa Jellum, the Dean of the Atrium Floyd School of Health Sciences at Georgia Highlands College, Dr. Gary Voccio, the Director of the Northwest Georgia Department of Public Health, Renee Blackburn, the Executive Director of the Free Clinic of Rome, Allie Herbert, a Berry College nursing student with a focus on rural healthcare, Atlanta-based producer of the film Anjanette Levert, and Dr. Kimberly Field-Springer, a Berry College Associate Professor in the Communications Department whose research has often focused on health disparities.

The RIFF & Berry College Through a Different Lens documentary series contains films that are part of the Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers, a program of South Arts.
