The Northwest Georgia Regional Cancer Coalition joins the observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.
Erin Hernandez, President and CEO, says that the earlier that breast cancer is detected, the easier it is to treat. She adds that the American Cancer Society recommends regular mammograms by age 45.
The coalition provides assistance with cancer screenings to anyone in need, states Hernandez.

According to the coalition –
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women in Georgia. In 2020, it was estimated that there were more than 8,000 newly diagnosed cases of breast cancer. Breast cancer is also the second leading cause of cancer death in the state. Of those 8,000 breast cancer diagnoses, there were approximately 1,300 related deaths. The relative survival rate for breast cancer is actually quite high if caught at an early stage.
