LEARN ABOUT THE SCIENCE OF FALL COLOR DURING THE TREE WALK ON MYRTLE HILL SET FOR OCTOBER 31ST

Enjoy a stroll among the trees of Myrtle Hill Cemetery and learn why leaves change colors every Autumn during the Community Workshop ‘Tree Walk on Myrtle Hill’ to be hosted by the Floyd County Master Gardeners on Tuesday, October 31st from 2 pm to 4 pm.

The program will be presented by John Hendrickson, Master Gardener; Keith Mickler, Floyd County Extension Agent; and Terry Paige, Certified Arborist.

The annual transition of the leaves from green into brilliant shades of yellow, orange, and red is triggered mainly by shorter days and cooler temperatures, says Mickler, who adds that pigments in each leaf determine the varied colors that emerge each Autumn.

Those who would like to participate in the Tree Walk on Halloween are asked to meet in the parking lot of the Myrtle Hill Mausoleum, bring water, and be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes.

For more information on the event, call the Floyd County Extension Office at (706) 295-6210.
