Volunteers and donations are sought for the 36th annual Thanksgiving Love Feast. The traditional Thanksgiving dinner will be served at the Rome Civic Center on Thursday, November 23rd from 11 am until 2 pm (or until the food runs out).
Carrying on this holiday tradition requires a lot of hard work, volunteers, and donations, according to Reverend Terrell Shields, Chairman of the Concerned Citizens of Rome and Floyd County.
Good fun, good food, and good fellowship is available to everyone who dines or volunteers at the Love Feast, asserts Terrica Shields.
At this time, plans are to offer carry-out only at this year’s Love Feast, states Reverend Shields, who adds that those plans are subject to change.
Those interested in serving as a volunteer should call (706) 234-2091 to find out when they are most needed. Time slots are from 9 am until 11 am, 11 am until 1 pm, and 1 pm until 3 pm.
To donate money, send your check payable to “Thanksgiving Love Feast” to P.O. Box 161, Rome, Georgia 30161. Donations may also be made by using the Cash app at #Lovefeast1987.
Donations of warm winter coats and jackets are also sought for distribution to those in need at the Thanksgiving Love Feast. They may be taken over to the Civic Center on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving from 5 pm to 8 pm, says Shields, who also welcomes the donation of desserts.
This annual effort to feed the hungry began more than three decades ago after Terrica learned at her daycare that some folks would not have anything to eat on Thanksgiving. Her big sister Cherish was certain that their father could do something about it; hence, the Love Feast.
