(Media release from The Salvation Army of Rome, GA):
The Salvation Army Rome, Georgia Corps will hold its annual kick off for its seasonal fundraising drive at 12:00 noon on Friday, November 17, 2017, at Hobby Lobby in Rome. The organization’s red kettles and bell ringers are familiar sights in front of retail stores throughout Floyd, Chattooga and Polk Counties ushering in the festive spirit of Christmas. Salvation Army Bell Ringers will be staffing locations at Hobby Lobby, Kroger, and Belk. In addition, the Angel Tree will be located inside both Walmart centers in Rome. The campaign will expand to include Walmart on Saturday, November 18.
The Red Kettle Campaign is The Salvation Army’s primary fundraising initiative, providing life-changing programs and services throughout the year, including food assistance programs, shelter for people experiencing homelessness, emergency financial assistance, youth programs, and disaster response.
The 2023 campaign goal is $90,000.00. The Red Kettle campaign ends December 23rd.
“While we are busy all year long, this is our most significant fundraising season, where we pull out all the stops,” Major Hank Harwell, Corps Officer for the local Salvation Army unit. “The donations we receive from our generous neighbors directly impact the most needy in our community for good.”
The Salvation Army serving Floyd, Chattooga and Polk Counties stands as a beacon of hope in the community, bridging the gap in crisis by providing social services for people experiencing unexpected financial hardship. The Salvation Army relies on the money raised through the Red Kettle campaign to provide Christmas to local families and safeguard the well-being of people in need through year-round programming and social services.
“The Salvation Army has an unwavering commitment to helping people in times of need, and the Red Kettle campaign is a critical source of funding that helps us meet that commitment,” said Major Harwell. “The funds the community generously gives to the Red Kettle ensures families do not have to make agonizing choices between basic needs like housing, food, and other needs.”
In addition to donating to the traditional bell ringers stationed at retail locations throughout the local area, supporters can give via our online Red Kettle found at www.give.salvationarmy.org.
From its humble beginnings as a Salvation Army captain’s start-up program in 1891 in San Francisco, the Red Kettle Campaign has grown into one of the most recognizable and important charitable campaigns in the United States. It provides toys for kids, warm clothes for the homeless, food for the hungry, and countless social service programs year-round. As part of the campaign, more than 25,000 Salvation Army volunteers throughout the country ring bells and solicit donations to the red kettles. The Salvation Army welcomes anyone interested in volunteering during this special time of the year.
